Project Overview:

Project Overview The Cycling the Erie Canal Web Map is an interactive web map of the Erie Canalway trail and its environs, which is being developed with ESRI’s ArcGIS Server. It is being developed for Parks and Trails New York (PTNY), a non-profit advocacy group that works for the protection and creation of parks statewide.

Project Overview (continued):

Project Overview (continued) In 2004, PTNY published Cycling the Erie Canal – A guide to 400 miles of adventure and history along the Erie Canalway Trail. This guidebook provides detailed maps and information about attractions, lodging and other services that can be found within the immediate proximity of the Erie Canalway Trail.

Project Overview (continued):

Project Overview (continued) PTNY wanted to leverage GIS and web technology to enhance the current version of the guide and bring it to a larger audience. They envisioned an interactive on-line gateway, where users can investigate the environs of, and plan trips to, the Canalway Trail. This resource would be meant to promote and compliment the current guide. Basically, they wanted to put the guidebook on the web
